Postdoctoral research associate; mitochondria in brain tumours
Highly motivated scientist is sought for the position of postdoctoral research associate in the laboratory of Dr. Kambiz Alavian at Imperial College London. The project is aimed at understanding the role of mitochondria in pathogenesis and treatment of brain tumours. The project involves the use of multiple approaches, including biophysical (ion channel electrophysiology), biochemical and cellular methods to study mitochondrial ion channels and metabolic processes in primary tumour cell lines.
Qualifications: Ph.D. with research strength, enthusiasm, self motivation, excellent technical and communication skills and proven record of accomplishment in one or more of the following areas: cell and molecular biology, electrophysiology, biochemistry, cancer biology.
The post is initially for two years with the possibility of extension. Interested candidates please forward your curriculum vitae, including names of three references, and a one-page summary of prior research experience/accomplishments and future goals to: Kambiz Alavian, PhD; email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Research Assistant Position
There is an opening for research assistant position in the Alavian Lab, Division of Brain Sciences, Department of Medicine at Imperial College London. The project will involve screening for therapeutic candidate drugs to be used in Parkinson’s disease. State of the art approaches including mitochondrial biochemical assays and whole organelle, mitochondrial electrophysiological measurements will be used for identification of the drugs and for testing the functional efficacy of the drugs.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related fields. Experience in in vitro biochemical assays and/or work with the animal models of neurodegenerative diseases is a plus. The post is initially for one year with the possibility of extension for another year.
